Where to Stay in Las Vegas on the Cheap

Las Vegas on the Cheap

While Las Vegas is presently shut down due to COVID-19, it is expected to open by Summertime. At some point, you may be thinking about taking a trip to Las Vegas, and saving money are just as important as finding ways to win money at the poker table.

Not everyone going out there has the ability to pay $200 to $1,000 a night for a hotel room. As such, here are a couple of suggestions about staying in Vegas on the cheap.

Off-Strip Casinos

If you do your research, you can usually find a room at an off-strip casino that is extremely reasonable. In the past, I’ve stayed at the Orleans Casino for $49 per night during the week and $60 on the weekend. The Orleans is a great casino that also includes a movie theatre, bowling alley, arcade, several restaurants, and plenty of gaming. If you like Omaha Hi-Lo, they have a lot of action in their poker room.

Personally, one of my favorite places to stay in Vegas is in the downtown area in one of the Fremont Street casinos. You can usually find most of the rooms there in the $29 to $49 range, even on the weekend.

The Golden Nugget is the highest-end casino and hotel downtown and you will usually pay around $69 and up per night. I prefer the Four Queens. The hotel was renovated a few years ago and the rooms are relatively nice. You are going to look at about $29 to about $39 on average during the week and anywhere from $49 to $69 on the weekend. They have a decent casino with a couple of restaurants, a subway and pizza place, and some excellent room service that is reasonably priced. Don’t forget, they are located across the street from Binion’s, the original home of the World Series of Poker.

You will want to do your research. Keep in mind that you will need to plan for transportation to the strip and other areas of Vegas if you are not driving.

Extended Stay Hotels

Depending on your length of stay, you may want to look into Extended Stay Hotels. They usually range in the $50 to $69 range, but many do include a kitchenette along with separate living and sleeping areas. If you are one that likes to prepare your own meals and save money, this is a good option.

I stayed at Crestwood Suites on Flamingo and found it a great value. I averaged $50 a night for my stay there and you can choose to rent nightly, weekly, or even monthly. You are also just a couple miles from the Strip.

Renting a Room or an Apartment

If you are planning a long term stay in Vegas, you may want to look into renting a room or an apt from someone. There are many people that offer rooms, casitas, etc for a short term rental in Vegas.

Craigslist is a good source to do your research and sometimes you can find a room for as little as $400 a month with utilities included. Obviously do your research on this one and if you can, ask to see pictures of the place. Don’t prepay on this type of deal either to avoid scams.

A trip to Las Vegas incurs plenty of expenses, so there is no reason to spend a ton on accommodations if you do not need to. You can also check out sites like i4vegas.com for excellent deals on hotels.

Sometimes you can find deals even better than sites like Priceline and hotwire or they will offer some type of special. I have no affiliation with the site, but they did save me a good bit of money on a couple of my Vegas trips. Do your research and find the best deal that you can.
