We went from six to three on Day 2 of the 2018 WSOP Main Event final table. Michael Dyer seemed unstoppable prior to Day 2, but Tony Miles and John Cynn found the formula to dethrone him.

Joe Cada looked to become just the fifth player in WSOP history to win two Main Event titles. Unfortunately, that run ended with a fifth-place finish. From the ashes of Cada’s defeat, Tony Miles rose as the new chip leader and will return with 64% of the chip in play heading into the final day of final table action.

Aram Zobian Out in Sixth

Aram Zobian didn’t have much time to play around on Friday as he started with just 16 big blinds. It wasn’t long before his stack was at risk, but probably not how he imagined it.

Zobian decided to shove from the small blind with 8d-6d but made the mistake of doing so against the chip leader Michael Dyer. Dyer found Ah-8c and made the call. Zobian was dead to a six or diamonds and managed to miss both on the board. As such, he was the first eliminated on Day 2, finishing in sixth. He still earned $1.8 million for his deep run.

Joe Cada’s Falls Short of Second Main Event Title – Finishes Fifth

The entire poker world was watching whether 2009 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada could do the unthinkable and win a second Main Event in the modern era. He is the first former champion in the modern era to get the chance and he tried his best to make it a reality.

After starting second to last in chips, Cada made two monster bluffs to build chips but like many times at this final table, when he was in with the best hand, it wouldn’t hold. Cada looked down to pocket tens and raised pre-flop, followed by three-bet to $6.9 million by Tony Miles.

Cada then moved all-in and was called by Miles. Miles turned over Ah-Kc and it was a 95 million chip race for the two. Cada’s run was all but over when the flop fell Ks-9h-8d to give Miles a pair. Cada picked up a straight draw on the turn but bricked it on the river to finish his second Main Event final table in fifth place.

Despite earning $2.15 million for fifth, Cada most certainly would rather have made history as just the fifth player to win two or more Main Event titles. One has to wonder whether he will get another chance. Odds are that we will see another deep Main Event run from the three-time bracelet winner sometime in the future.

Nicolas Manion Makes $2.825 Million in First WSOP Event

Nicolas Manion is a true WSOP rookie with the 2018 Main Event being his first WSOP event he’s ever played. Manion went on an amazing run, culminating in a final table appearance. Prior to this, he normally plays $1-$3 NL cash games.

Manion started the final table on Thursday as the chip leader and steadily slid from that point. He eventually found himself the short stack on Day 2 and was able to double-up once, but it wasn’t enough to put him back into serious contention.

Manion tried again to double with As-10d but ran into pocket kings from John Cynn. The board failed to produce an ace and Manion finished in fourth place. His first ever WSOP event netted him $2.825 million – an impressive feat for a WSOP rookie.

Tony Miles is New Chip Leader

Tony Miles monster hand against Joe Cada put him in second chip position and another monster hand with Michael Dyer put him into the chip lead. From there, Miles continued to run pure and grew his stack to 238.9 million by the end of the day

John Cynn started third in chips and after what started as a roller coaster day, managed to move up to second in chips with 128.7 million. Mike Matusow was impressed and said that he would have a chance to win the title if he was able to get heads-up with 50 or more big blinds. Right now he has 80.

Michael Dyer started the day as a monster chip leader and finished as the short stack with just 26.2 million. He used the stack as a hammer consistently until Miles took the lead away and from that point, a few unfortunate hands resulted in him having just 16 big blinds. He has a lot of work to do if he hopes to win the bracelet.

Saturday action starts at 5:30 pm PST and play will continue until the bracelet is awarded. Third will earn $3.75 million, while second takes home $5 million. The eventual winner will earn $8.8 million and the Power Ranger style WSOP bracelet.

The 2018 World Champion of Poker will either be Tony Miles, John Cynn, or Michael Dyer. We will know whom in less than 24 hour’s time.
