Over 90 Players Have Cashed for More Than $1 Million in 2018
In 2017, live poker saw a record 125 players cash for at least $1 million or more. Looking at the 2018 Money List following the 2018 World Series of Poker, it appears that last year’s record is about to be shattered.
Presently, there are 90 players with $1 million in earnings or more this year, headlined by Justin Bonomo who has already set a single-season record in for live earnings.
Bonomo Lapping the Competition
Looking at the present 2018 Money List generated on Monday by Hendon Mob, there are presently 90 players with at least $1 million in live cashes in 2018. That’s out of 76,279 players with recorded results on the site this year.
Justin Bonomo is easily at the top of the list with $24,945,453. Jason Koon is a distant second with $9,735,609. John Cynn, 2018 Main Event winner, is third with $8,802,468.

Below are the top 10 of the 2018 Money List as of Monday:

There are 23 players on this list with at least $3 million in earnings in 2018. That list includes Joe Cada, Cary Katz, Isaac Haxton, Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney and Patrik Antonius.
Other notable names with more than $1 million in 2018 earnings include Ole Schemion, Viktor Blom, Anthony Zinno, Maria Lampropulos, Dan Cates, Erik Seidel, Paul Volpe, Michael Mizrachi and Toby Lewis.
There are also several players with over $900k in earnings that are just a couple deep runs from cracking the $1 million mark. Those include Ben Lamp, Kristen Bicknell, Galen Hall and Barry Hutter. Michael Addamo nearly made the millionaires club but is just $183 short with $999,817 so far.
Will There Be 150 Poker Millionaires in 2018?
The question now isn’t whether there will be more poker millionaires in 2018 than any other year, but rather it’s how many more there will be. There are already 90 through July and there’s still five months worth of events left to come.
High Roller events continue to be a driving force in the upshot in poker millionaires. An event with a buy-in of $25k or more used to be a rarity, but now it almost seems to be a necessity in order to attract certain pros.
In addition, there are events such as the US Poker Open that cater exclusively to High Rollers and award more in a few events than some live tournament series award in over a month’s worth of play. These events push the elite players to put forth insane campaigns such as Bonomo’s 2018 campaign.

That’s not to say that standard poker events are floundering. They are not. There are many players in this year’s millionaire’s club that either haven’t played or haven’t cashed in a single $25k or larger event. Instead, they are playing consistently and running deep or finishing in the top three in major tournaments around the world.
With this combination of factors, there’s no reason to believe that there won’t be 150 players to win $1 million or more this year. If anything, it serves as a testament to the continued growth and popularity of live poker around the world. At this rate, the record will not only fall this year but for at least the next couple of years.
