Ole Schemion Wins WPT European Championship for First WPT Title
One major poker star that noticeably skipped the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure was Ole Schemion. The German poker superstar skipped the PCA in lieu of playing the inaugural WPT European Championship in Berlin.
It ended up being a wise move as he ended up winning the tournament for his first World Poker Tour title.
Schemion Dominates Final Table En Route to First WPT Title
The WPT European Championship concluded on Monday night with Ole Schemion putting on a dominating performance at the final table. He navigated his way through a field of 339 entries en route to his first WPT title and $260,858 in prize money.
Heading into the final table, Schemion held the chip lead and put on a dominating performance that saw him eliminate four of five players at the final table. He entered heads-up play against Michal Mrakes with a 2:1 chip advantage and never looked back.
Mrakes made a valiant effort to come back but he just didn’t have enough luck to pull off the comeback. In the final hand, he shoved all-in on the flop with just a flush draw and Schemion made the call with top pair. Mrakes failed to hit his flush and Schemion took his first WPT title.
In addition to winning the $260,858 top prize, Schemion also secured his seat into the WPT Tournament of Champions later this year.
Schemion Adds to Impressive Resume – 3rd On German All-Time Money List
Schemion’s victory in the WPT European Championship is far from his best career cash. However, it does help him creep up various money lists, including the German All-Time Money List.
He is presently 3rd on the German List, with $13.8 million in career earnings. Christoph Vogelsang is second with $15.44 million. Schemion will have a bit of work to do to get atop the list as Fedor Holz presently has $26.7 million in earnings and the “retired” pro doesn’t appear to be slowing down his action in high roller tournaments anytime soon.
Schemion is no slouch in High Roller events. In 2016, he won the EPT Grand Finale Monte Carlo €100k Super High Roller for $1.8 million. He has numerous big wins in High Roller tournaments, including four straight final tables in Aria High Roller tournaments last July.
Schemion has averaged over $2 million in earnings each of the last six years and appears to be well on that way to at least meeting that average again in 2018.
