Nick Petrangelo Defeats Elio Fox Heads-Up for WSOP $100k High Roller Bracelet
Nick Petrangelo has been on a remarkable run this past week. After finishing sixth in the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl, he has now snagged his second career WSOP bracelet and the largest score of his live tournament career after taking down the $100,000 High Roller at the 2018 World Series of Poker.
Petrangelo survived a tough final table that included Stephen Chidwick, Jason Koon, Fedor Holz and Adrian Mateos. He defeated another streaking player, Elio Fox, heads-up for the title.
On Sunday, Petrangelo was the chip leader with 10 players left and held onto that lead for most of the day as the $100,000 High Roller played down to six players. The final table was eight handed with Fedor Holz becoming the unfortunate final table bubble boy.
Once the final table was reached, Adrian Mateos and Jason Koon were quickly eliminated to set up Monday’s final. Petrangelo started the last day as chip leader with a two million chip lead over the next closest opponent.

Here’s how the final six started the day in chips:
- Nick Petrangelo – 12,200,000
- Bryn Kenney – 10,200,000
- Elio Fox – 8,620,000
- Andreas Eiler – 8,490,000
- Aymon Hata – 7,280,000
- Stephen Chidwick – 5,740,000
Stephen Chidwick started the day as the short stack and was unable to get anything going, ultimately finishing in sixth place. In his final hand, he was all-in and behind holding Qs-6s against the As-Qc of Aymon Hata. The flop missed both players, but the turn gave Chidwick a pair of sixes and hopes of a double up. Unfortunately for him, the river Ad gave Hata the hand and sent Chidwick to the rail to collect $484,551.
Soon after, Bryn Kenney was knocked out in fifth. Despite starting second in chips at the start of play, he steadily slid down to just 2.1 million. He was ultimately all-in and flipping with pocket fours against the Kh-Jc for Elio Fox. The flop and turn missed both players, but the river produced the Kc to eliminate Kenney in fifth. He took home $646,927 for his remarkable run in this event.
Andreas Eiler ran into a cooler to end his day unexpectedly in fourth place. Calling a pre-flop raise from Nick Petrangelo pre-flop with Ks-Jh, Eiler flopped trip jacks on a board of Js-Jc-6s. Eiler made what would appear to be a brilliant check-raise to 1.4 million, but little did he know that Petrangelo had pocket sixes and flopped a full house.

The turn was the 4c and Eiler bets 2.2 million. Petrangelo called and the river fell the 7h. Eiler checked, Petrangelo shoved and Eiler made the call to discover that what seemed to be a likely double was instead a fourth-place finish. Eiler still earned $886,793 for his run in this event.
Aymon Hata was eliminated a few minutes later when his top pair ran into a straight from Petrangelo. This left Nick Petrangelo facing Elio Fox heads-up for the bracelet.
Fox has already won a bracelet this summer and was looking for his second title of the summer and third overall. Petrangelo was looking to win his second career bracelet. At the start of heads-up action, Petrangelo had more than a 3:1 chip lead over Fox.
Fox played masterfully heads-up and managed to take over the chip lead. At one point, Fox had his own 2:1 chip lead but his momentum was crushed after an unlikely double-up from Petrangelo.
Petrangelo and Fox got into a pre-flop raising war that eventually saw Petrangelo shove with Jd-3d and Fox call with pocket fives. The flop fell Qh-Jd-6d to give Petrangelo a better pair. The turn 3h gave him two pair, leaving Fox with just two outs.
The river 8s was enough to give Petrangelo the double up and the chip lead. A few hands later, Petrangelo ended up gettin the rest of Fox’s chips. At the river, Fox checked on a board of As-Ad-2c-8d-3c and Petrangelo moved all-in. Fox called and showed 2d-5c for two pair but Petrangelo showed Qc-8s for a better two pair to win the hand and his second career bracelet. While falling short of his second bracelet, Fox still earned a massive payday of $1.79 million.
Nick Petrangelo not only won his second career bracelet but he also earned the largest cash of his live tournament career, winning $2.91 million. Including his sixth-place finish in the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl, Petrangelo has earned $3.81 million in the past week.
If you ever need proof that poker is streaky, all you need to do is look at the recent fortunes of both Nick Petrangelo and Elio Fox.
