Kara Scott and Maria Ho Headline Finalists for Women in Poker Hall of Fame
The finalists for the 2018 class of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame have been announced. On Monday, the WIPHOF announced their list of 11 finalists, consisting of poker players, industry experts and media professionals.
The list now moves forward to the voting committee with the inductees to be revealed at a later date.
Kara Scott and Maria Ho Headline Finalists
The WIPHOF announced their group of finalists on Monday and this is perhaps one of the strongest classes since the inaugural class in 2008. Poker personality Kara Scott and accomplished pro Maria Ho are the featured headliners this year, but every finalists is deserving of a spot in the hall.
Below is the list of this year’s finalists. We don’t envy the voting panel’s job.
Hermance Blum – Blum has been an industry executive for a decade, working in the past for parytpoker and PokerStars. Starting in 2011, she began work with the World Poker Tour and was appointed the General Manager of WPT Europe.
Mandy Glowgo – Mandy is the World Poker Tour’s show runner. She started with the WPT in 2005 and worked her way up to Supervising Producer.
Haley Hintze – Haley is a veteran poker writer and editor having worked for many of the top publications in the industry. She is also well-known for her research and reporting on exposing aspects of the UB/AP superuser scandal.
Angelica Hael – Angelica heads Global Tour Management at the World Poker Tour and is VP of WPT Enterprises, Inc. She was also instrumental in the WPT’s expansion into Africa, Asia and South America.
Maria Ho – Maria is both an accomplished poker player and TV personality. She has over $2.7 million in career earnings and has been the Last Woman Standing in the WSOP Main Event twice.
Karina Jett – Karina is a well-known and respected poker pro with around $500k in career earnings. She has made the final table of the Ladies Championship at the World Series of Poker four times and has numerous other high-profile deep runs in poker events.
Terry King – Terry is an old school pro and was a staple of the Vegas poker scene in the 1970s and 80s. Terry won a WSOP bracelet after taking down the Women’s 7-Card Stud Event at the 1978 World Series of Poker. She was pegged by the late Chip Reese as a prop player for the Dunes poker room and she later worked as a floorperson for both the Bicycle Casino and Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles. She’s also a prominent admin of the RealGrinders poker community on Facebook.
Shirley Rosario – Shirley is an old school pro and industry professional. She has a dozen career poker victories and is an accomplished cash game player. She also developed Poker-Babes.com, a site that prominently featured women in poker.
Kara Scott – Scott is best known around the globe as a poker personality, having covered everything from the WPT to the Super High Roller Bowl. Most casual fans know her from ESPNs World Series of Poker broadcasts. She’s also an accomplished poker player with over $660,000 in career earnings. She’s also an ambassador for the 888 Poker.
Lupe Soto – Lupe is the founder of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame but is best known for starting the Ladies International Poker Series, or LIPS Tour for short. She’s has been instrumental in promoting women’s poker and brining in women to poker for over 15 years.
Jennifer Tilly – Jennifer’s victory in the 2005 WSOP Ladies Championship helped to usher in a boom for women’s poker at the WSOP. In addition, she has been an accomplished player with close to $1 million in live earnings. She regularly appears on poker TV programs including Poker Night in America and Poker After Dark.
Voting Panel to Make Final Decision
Now that the finalists are announced, the voting panel will make their final selections. The voting panel consists of two parts. First, the members of the WIPHOF will vote for their choices. In addition, members of the Media and Industry Voting Panel will also vote on their selections.
The Media and Industry Voting Panel consists of poker and print media personnel as well as industry experts and poker pros. A list of voting members of the panel are on the WIPHOF website.
After the inductees are selected, a induction ceremony is scheduled for June 26th at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas. Unlike the Poker Hall of Fame, the WIPHOF will actually hold a legitimate ceremony to celebrate their inductees.
