Justin Bonomo Wins Super High Roller Bowl China – Patrik Antonius Second
The inaugural Super High Roller Bowl China is now in the books. On Thursday, the final table of the event wrapped up with Justin Bonomo coming out on top and taking home the $4.82 million top prize.
Patrik Antonius made an incredible run and finished runner-up for $3.15 million. Every player at the final table took home more than $1 million.
Super High Roller Bowl Mints Seven Poker Millionaires
The inaugural Super High Roller Bowl China kicked off on Tuesday and there were 75 entries of HK$ 2.1 million collected (~$250k USD). Some players elected to fire a single bullet while Fedor Holz put up a total of $1.5 million USD in total entries. Unfortunately, he failed to make the money.
Only 11 players made the money in this event. The money bubble was broken on Wednesday with Dan Smith, Dan Cates, Jason Koon and Isaac Haxton all busting out short of the final table.
As expected, the final table of this event was stacked and each player guaranteed at least $1.1 million. David Peters, Bryn Kenney, Stephen Chidwick, Rainer Kempe, Patrik Antonius, Dominik Nitsche, and Justin Bonomo all made the final table.
Ultimately, it was Bonomo squaring off against Antonius for the title. Bonomo had the chip lead to start the match but ultimately took it down in what turned out to be a cooler for Antonius.
Bonomo called a three-bet from Antonius holding 7d-5d. Antonius three-bet with Kh-10h. The flop fell Jd-10d-8d and things went downhill from there. The turn 9h and river Qs gave Antonius a straight and he bet big on the river.
Bonomo shoved and Antonius made what seemed like an easy call but discovered he had been coolered. Nonetheless, Antonius still earned $3.15 million for his runner-up finish.
The victory game Bonomo $4.82 million in prize money and put him over $7 million in earnings so far in 2018. His last three cashes were all victories, including wins at the US Poker Open and the Lucky Hearts Poker Open.
Amazingly, this event will likely only be the fourth most-lucrative NL Hold’em event of the year. The Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas, the Big One for One Drop at the 2018 WSOP and the 2018 WSOP Main Event will all award larger first place prizes.
Justin Bonomo Now 6th on Poker’s All-Time Money List
In recent years, Justin Bonomo has been rocketing up Poker’s All-Time Money List and after his win on Thursday, he is not 6th all-time. His $4.82 million victory allowed him to leapfrog over Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, and John Juanda as he now sits with $25.19 million in live tournament earnings.
Daniel Negreanu sits atop the list with $36.54 million while Erik Seidel trails right behind with $33.53 million. They are presently the only players with more than $30 million in lifetime earnings.
Daniel Colman is presently third with $28.92 million while inaugural Big One For One Drop Champion Antonio Esfandiari is fourth overall with $27.61 million. German superstar Fedor Holz is fifth with $26.7 million in earnings.
The question now on fan’s minds is how long it will take for Bonomo to break the $30 million mark. Bonomo has close to $16 million in earnings over the from 2016 through today and at this monster pace, he could well break the $30 million mark sometime in 2019.
Of course, the Big One for One Drop and the Vegas Super High Roller Bowl are on the horizon and a deep run or win in either of those could allow him to reach that plateau later this year.
