Isildur1 Wins partypoker MILLIONS Main Event for $1 Million

Viktor Blom, aka Isildur1, is known more for winning and losing millions in high stakes online poker games. It’s rare we hear his name in connection with a major live poker tournament victory.

That all changed on Sunday when Blom took down the partypoker MILLIONS Germany Main Event for just over $1 million in prize money. This was Blom’s first major live poker title and his first win since 2012.

Blom Concludes Long Final Day With First Major Poker Title

The partypoker MILLIONS Germany Main Event kicked off on Wednesday at the King’s Casino, Rozvadov and drew an awesome field of 1,022 players. Viktor Blom started things off in strong fashion by finishing Day 1A as chip leader.

He then proceeded to navigate his way through the large field to find himself second in chips when the final 13 returned to conclude tournament play on Sunday. Other notable players that returned on Sunday included Joao Simao, Adrian Mateos, and Yiannis Liperis.

Liperis and Mateos both fell short of the eight-player final table but Simao was able to make it as the short stack. Heading into the final table, Ondrej Drozd held the chip lead at 258 million with Aristeidis Moschonas of Greece right behind him.

Blom started the final table third in chips at 144 million. One of the best stories of the final table was Rickie Silcock who was in the event on a $109 on partypoker and was looking to turning that into a massive €1 million top prize.

Final table poker is seldom kind and the chip leaders heading into the final table were crushed early. Moschonas finished in 7th with Drozd finishing in 6th.

Joao Simao started the final table as the short stack but managed to ladder up and finished in 4th place, good for €280,000. Rickie Silcock had an awesome ride in this event, but he fell short of the title, finishing in third. However, he turned €109 into $400,000, good for a 3,669x ROI.

Heads-up play began with Pavel Plesuv holding the chip lead with 562 million to 451 million for Blom. Prior to the start of play, the pair cut a deal to chop up the prize money. They both took €750,000 each and agreed to play it out for the trophy and €100,000.

Plesuv at one point held a 9:1 chip lead over Blom but Blom managed to make an incredible comeback to take the chip lead. In the final hands, players were about even. In the final hand, Plesuv shoved on the river with Qd-7d on a board of Kd-Qh-9hAd-5h. Blom tanked a bit and finally made the call with Kh-6d to win the hand and the title.

For his victory, Blom received a stylish partypoker Millions Germany trophy and €850,000 ($1 million USD) in prize money.

Victory Was Second Largest Live Score of Blom’s Career

While Blom has won and lost millions in online poker, his live poker scores have been few and far between. In fact, Sunday’s victory is more than a third of Blom’s total live career earnings. His $1.048 million prize is the second largest of his career and brings his career totals to $2.78 million.

Blom’s only other victory and only other seven-figure score came in 2012 when he won the $100k Super High Roller at the PCA. Outside of that win, his most notable finish was during the 2012 $50k Poker Player’s Championship at the World Series of Poker. He finished in 14th for $105,235.

Blom has received a lot of criticism regarding his style in the past. Many have seen his style as too wild to be successful long-term. However, the best players evolve and Sunday’s victory may be the latest step in the evolution of Victor Blom. It will be interesting to see what the rest of 2018 holds for the man known worldwide as Isildur1.
