Frankie O’Dell Makes History with Third Omaha Hi-Lo WSOP Bracelet Win
The 50th World Series of Poker marches on and two big events concluded over the weekend. Sean Swingruber defeated a stacked field of 112 players to win his first bracelet in the $10k Heads-Up NL Hold’em Championship. He defeated Ben Yu heads-up for the title.
Meanwhile, Frankie O’Dell made history on Sunday by becoming the first player to win three Omaha Hi-Lo bracelets. He defeated a stacked final table in the $10k Omaha Hi-Lo Championship for his third career WSOP title along with $443,641 in prize money.
Sean Swingruber Wins $10k Heads-Up Championship
One of the most anticipated events of the WSOP is the $10k Heads-Up Championship. This year’s event drew 112 players and it was a murderers row in the field as top NL players from around the world showed up to try to take the title.
This was evident by those that made the Elite Eight. Mattias Eibinger, Kristen Bicknell, Jake Schindler, and Jimmy D’Ambrosio all made the Elite Eight but failed to make the final four. Of the final four, three were previous bracelet winners. Keith Lehr, Cord Garcia, Ben Yu, and Sean Swingruber were looking to take down this stacked field and in the end, it was Swingruber against Yu for the title.
Yu was a three-time WSOP bracelet winner while Swingruber was looking for his first title. Yu jumped into the lead and held the lead for much of this match. However, Swingruber got hot at the right time and that’s what made the difference.
Swingruber took the chip lead for good about hand 128 and never relinquished the lead. In the final hand, he had to get a little lucky to win. He tried to make a move with 8h-6h, shoving on Yu, but Yu woke up with pocket sixes. The flop fell with one heart and the turn fell a second heart. You guessed it – the river brought a third heart to complete Swingruber’s flush and to give him his first career bracelet.
For his victory, Sean Swingruber wins his first career bracelet and $186,356 in prize money.
Frankie O’Dell Wins $10k Omaha Hi-Lo Championship
Frankie O’Dell may not be a household name to the average NL Hold’em player, but if you have been around poker for any amount of time, you have probably heard his name mentioned. O’Dell is perhaps one of the best Omaha Hi-Lo players in the world and he proved that fact on Sunday after winning the $10k Omaha Hi-Lo Championship for his third career bracelet.
O’Dell had to survive an impressive final table to get his third bracelet. Making the final table were David Benyamine, Shaun Deeb, Jake Schwartz, Robert Mizrachi, and Owais Ahmed. O’Dell spent a chunk of the final table as the short stack but by the time we were down to three-handed, he had vaulted into the chip lead.
By the time that Robert Mizrachi fell in third place, O’Dell had amassed a 4:1 chip lead over Owais Ahmed. That lead grew to over 10:1 before the final hand. The final hand saw Ahmed all-in on the turn with trip queens and a weak low draw against O’Dell’s flush draw with nut low draw. O’Dell called out for a spade to hit and the river produced his needed spade to win the hand and his third bracelet.
Frankie O'Dell has won his third WSOP Omaha eight-or-better bracelet, taking down the 2019 $10,000 O/8 championship for $443,641.

All of O’Dell’s bracelets have come in Omaha Hi-Lo, and his third bracelet makes him the only person in WSOP history with three Omaha Hi-Lo bracelets. In addition to winning his third WSOP bracelet, O’Dell also earned $443,641 in prize money. The old school player showed the world that he still has what it takes to win at the highest level.
