David Peters and Brandon Adams Win First Events of 2018 Poker Masters
The first two events of the Poker Masters are in the books and we have a clear frontrunner for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket. David Peters took down Event #1, the $10k NL Event to open the event while Brandon Adams took down Event #2, $25,000 NL Hold’em. Adams also finished fourth in Event #1 and now has the overall lead for the Purple Jacket heading into the third event.
David Peters Wins Poker Masters Event #1
The 2018 Poker Masters kicked off on Friday and concluded on Saturday with the final table of the $10k NL Hold’em. The final table was highlighted by 2016 Super High Roller Bowl Champion Rainer Kempe as well as WSOP bracelet winners Cord Gardcia and David Peters. Isaac Haxton and Brandon Adams were also looking to take down the event.
Ultimately, it was Peters that took down the title and the $193,200 top prize. He started the final table third in chips behind Brandon Adams. Peters started a massive run that soon saw him take 75% of the chips in play with four players remaining. He continued to dominate until he took a massive chip lead heads-up against Brian Green.
Green battled hard but just was unable to mount enough of a comeback to take the title. In the final hand, he ran pocket eights into pocket kings and Peters took the title. Peters earned $193,200 for his victory plus 300 points towards the Poker Masters Purple Jacket.

After winning, Peters told Poker Central, I take every instance based on stacks and try to block out everything that happened in the past. I try to play the stack sizes well and adjust based on how he’s playing. Fortunately, I ran pretty well.”
Brandon Adams Wins Event #2 – Takes Purple Jacket Lead
After finishing fourth in Event #1, Brandon Adams jumped into Event #2 and managed to make the final table of the $25,000 NL Hold’em for his second straight final table. Adams won a Poker Master event last year, winning a $50k NL tournament.
Sunday’s final table was also stacked with Jason Koon, Bill Klein, Jake Schindler, Jared Jaffee, Adams, and six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu only managed a cup of coffee at the final table and hit the rail in sixth. He ran pocket tens into pocket queens from Adams.
Adams took the chip lead for good three-handed when he hit runner-runner to make aces full against threes-full against Jared Jaffee. This gave him half the chip in play. From there, he made it heads-up against Jaffee who had a meager 10 big blinds. Adams finished off Jaffee to win the title and $400,000. In addition, he earned 300 more points towards the Poker Master Purple Jacket.

Poker Central asked Adams to compare Sunday’s win against his win last year and he said, “The last one I would say was really smooth. It felt like I was playing good and running good and I had a chip lead on the final table for a lot of the final table. This time, it was a rollercoaster. I had to get really lucky in some spots.”
He also told Poker Central that his plans for the remainder of the Poker Masters are different after taking down this event and taking the lead for the Purple Jacket. He stated, “I was going to be a little bit conservative in terms of events chosen and buy-ins. Now that I’m in a good position, I think I’m going to play all of the events and maybe rebuy in spots where I might not otherwise. Definitely will be aggressive in chasing the number one spot.”
With his win Sunday, Adams has 420 points, 120 more than David Peters in second. Jared Jaffee and Brian Green are tied for third with 210 each. There are still five events remaining in the series, including the $25k PLO that kicked off on Sunday. Many players are looking forward to Monday’s $10k Short Deck Poker event, the first of it’s kind to be held in the United States.
