Danny Tang Wins Final Fifty at 2019 World Series of Poker
After the start of the 2019 World Series of Poker, officials announced the addition of a 90th event, the $50,000 Final Fifty NL Hold’em Event. The event concluded on Wednesday and produced an elite final table of top high rollers from around the world.
In the end, it was a relative newcomer to the high roller circuit that took down the title. Danny Tang defeated a stacked final table to take down just the second bracelet ever for Hong Kong. He also earned the final seven-figure prize of the series prior to the crowning of the 2019 Main Event champion.
Final Table Was a Who’s Who of the High Stakes World
This event drew an amazing field of 123 entries to create a prize pool of $5.9 million. As expected, all of the big names of the high roller community came out for this one and 19 players managed to take home some extra cash for their bankrolls.
Some of the players that fell short of the final table included Juan Dominguez, Steffen Sontheimer, Dan Smith, Sean Winter, Talal Shakerchi, Poker Central founder Cary Katz, Ben Heath, and Elior Sion. Seth Davies was the final table bubble boy, busting in seventh place.
This left an elite field to battle for one of the final high roller bracelets of the 2019 WSOP. Brandon Adams came in as chip leader with Adrian Mateos right behind. Other players at the final table were Sam Soverel, Michael Addamo, Danny Tang, Keith Tilston, and Ali Imsirovic. Imsirovic is the leader on Poker Central’s High Roller of the Year leaderboard.
It was Imsirovic that was the first knocked out at the final table. He started as the second shortest stack and could not get anything going. In the final hand, he was all-in with As-8d against the Qh-5s of Brandon Adams. Imsirovic flopped an ace while Adams flopped a five. Adams then proceeded to river a queen to knock out Imsirovic in 7th. He earned $212,292.
Keith Tilston started the final table as the short stack and managed to ladder one spot, finishing in fifth. He ran 10h-8h into the pocket kings of Adrian Mateos. A king on the turn sent Tilston to the rail to collect $275,874.
Adrian Mateos was the fifth-place finisher. He ran Jc-8c into the Qd-Js of Brandon Adams. A queen on the flop proved more than enough to send Mateos to the rail to collect $367,186.
Despite starting the final table as chip leader, Brandon Adams fell in fourth place. Danny Tang took the chip leader four-handed and a big hand between the two top stacks resulted in Adams’ early exit. Danny Tang shoved from the button with Ah-Qd and Adams called with Ac-Jc. The board ran out low and Adams left to collect $500,282.
Brandon Adams just committed the grossest ICM suicide I’ve ever seen. He just needed to fold 2 more hands to get a $250k-500k pay jump. Big balls to call it off with AJ there but my god, who just lights 500k on fire with a guy having 2 BB left @TuckonSports @Bhanks11 @PokerGO

After Adams’ elimination, this left Tang with almost a 6 to 1 chip lead over the rest of the field. Michael Addamo had just two big blinds left in his stack and put those chips at risk with Kh-5d. Unfortunately, he ran into the Kd-9d of Tang and that nine was enough to send Addamo to the rail to collect $697,375.
Danny Tang Becomes Second Ever Bracelet Winner From Hong Kong
At the start of heads-up play, Danny Tang had more than a 6 to 1 chip lead over Sam Soverel. Soverel didn’t give up and used aggression to get a few chips. He then caught Tang trying to make a move with Q-3 and managed to double with A-10. At this point, only 13 big blinds separated the two.
The pair battled a while with neither giving up much ground before a big final hand. Sam Soverel decided to shove pre-flop with Ac-3h and Tang woke up with Ah-Jh to make the easy call. The flop fell 10s-10c-5d and Tang stayed in the lead with his jack.
The turn fell the 3c and Soverel had two pair and looked ready to double into the chip lead. However, the river fell the Ad and his rail soon erupted when they realized that both players had made aces-up and Tang won the hand with the superior kicker.
Sam Soverel finished runner-up and will take home $994,072. Meanwhile, Danny Tang is just the second person from Hong Kong to win a WSOP bracelet. He took down the Final Fifty title along with $1.6 million in prize money.
