Cary Katz Wins Super High Roller Bowl London – Talks 2020 BPO
The Super High Roller Bowl London is officially in the books and Cary Katz has finally come through in a big way in a major high roller. On Saturday, Cary “El Hefe” Katz won the Super High Roller Bowl London for the largest score of his live poker career.
At the conclusion of the event, we also found out that Poker Central is planning to continue to the British Poker Open and the Super High Roller Bowl London in 2020. Also, we know when the next installment of the Super High Roller Bowl will be played.
Cary Katz Defeats Ali Imsirovic For Largest Score of His Career
Despite just starting with 12 players on Friday, the Super High Roller Bowl London halted play once the final table of seven was reached. Those players returned on Saturday to play for the title. Only the top two players were paid, so there would be five players going home without a payday.
Sam Greenwood, David Peters, Mikita Badziakouski, Stephen Chidwick, and Christoph Vogelsang all busted short of the money. Vogelsang was the unfortunate bubble boy in the event, finishing in third place.
It was Ali Imsirovic against Cary Katz heads-up for the title. The pair battled back and forth during heads-up play and it took a suckout to end it. In the final hand, Imsirovic turned a set and Katz was looking for a flush draw to win. He caught his flush to win the hand, and the title.
We’ve often reported on near-misses for Katz in the past, but this time he broke through in a big way for the largest score of his live poker career. He won £2.1 million for first place.
Following the win, Katz told Poker Central, This is my biggest score and I was just remarkably lucky. I got lucky on the hands that mattered after what seemed to just become a slow demise. I’m not in their league and I would just like to take my hat off to Stevie, Christoph, and Ali. I think they all played so much better than I did and I think they were all more deserving. I just got very lucky.
I think Stevie really deserved to win, he played absolutely perfect but he just kept losing all the races. Vogelsang also played terrific and Ali play unreal so I think I played by far the worst today but I just got the luckiest but I’ll take it,”
Katz Talks About BPO and SHRB London 2020
If some of Katz’s remarks reported on by Poker Central holds true, we will likely see a return of both the British Poker Open and Super High Roller Bowl London in 2020. In an article on the website, Katz stated, “I’m looking to build a better tour and I think we’re going to do much better next year with the British Poker Open and Super High Roller Bowl London and I think we’ll get a much better turnout. We have some very exciting things on the agenda and I just feel very lucky to be a part of it.”
The British Poker Open drew small but respectable fields for most of their events but their closing events struggled. Continuing that trend, the Super High Roller Bowl London only drew 12 entries. It will be interesting to see what Poker Central has planned for next year and whether it has an impact.
Super High Roller Bowl Going to the Caribbean
Also mentioned in Poker Central’s report of the SHRB London was the next installment of the Super High Roller Bowl. The next event will be played at the Caribbean Poker Party from November 16 through 18 at the Baha Mar Casino in Nassau.
The event will feature a $250,000 buy-in and will be part of the partypoker LIVE series. It is likely that we will see this event a bit better attended than the one in London, but time will tell. If the event struggles, it will not be a good sign for the health and potential future of the Super High Roller Bowl as a franchise.
