Calvin Anderson Extends SCOOP Record With 9th and 10th Titles
American online poker pro Calvin Anderson, aka cal42688, was already the all-time leader in SCOOP titles at PokerStars with eight titles heading into the 2018 Spring Championship of Online Poker.
Anderson wasted little time in extending his record, winning a 9th and 10th SCOOP title during this series on top of 30 other cashes in this series.
Anderson Wins 9th and 10th SCOOP Titles to Extend Record
Calvin Anderson is presently in Mexico playing the 2018 SCOOP on PokerStars and has already extended his career record of SCOOP titles, winning Event #19H and #26H.
His first win came in Event #19-H, the $2,100 NL Hold’em 6-Max. The $500,000 Guaranteed event drew 338 entries and created a top prize of $126,659. Joining him at the final table was David “Dpeters” Peters and Aaron”AaronBeen” Been.
Peters ultimately finished 3rd and Been runner-up as Anderson took his 9th career SCOOP title. The victory extended his streak of annual SCOOP victories to six. Anderson has won at least one SCOOP title every year since 2013 and has won titles in eight of the last nine years dating back to 2010.
Anderson was not finished winning titles as he proceeded to take down Event #26H, the $1,050 FLO8 Event. This time around, Anderson chopped; the prize money three ways with Sebastian “p0cket00” Sikorski and Connor “blanconegro” Drinan. Drinan received $20,099 while Sikorski won $21,847.
The three played it out for the title and some cash and Anderson came out on top winning $26,305 and his 10th career SCOOP title.
Anderson’s Record is a Testament to His Proficiency in All Games
If you look at his title history, Anderson has won SCOOP titles in 9 different variants of poker. He’s won at least one title in all of the following:
- PL Omaha
- Stud 8 or Better
- Razz
- Limit Hold’em
- HORSE
- Seven Card Stud
- 8-Game
- NL Hold’em
- FL Omaha Hi-Lo
Out of his two NL titles, one is in six-max play and the other was in 3-Max Turbo Zoom Poker. One could argue that he has 10 titles in 10 different disciplines.
Anderson’s win in the $2,100 NL represented his largest SCOOP score of over $126,659. Presently, Anderson has over $7.2 million in online tournament cashes. He has 157 tournament victories with 118 runner-up finishes and 81 third place finishes.
Anderson has only two scores larger than his 9th SCOOP victory. Last year, he finished 3rd in the $2,100 NL High Roller for $154,400. In 2011, Anderson earned the largest score of his online poker career with a win in a $1.5 million event on Full Tilt Poker, winning $303,951.
In addition to his online poker scores, Anderson has also earned over $1.8 million in live poker events. The bulk of his earnings have come at the World Series of Poker or on the European Poker Tour (EPT).
Anderson has one WSOP bracelet win on his resume, winning the $1,500 Stud 8 or Better event at the 2014 World Series of Poker for $190k. In 2016, he missed out on his second career bracelet when he finished runner-up to Michael Tureniec in the $1,111 Little One for One Drop. However, he did earn $324,954 for the largest live score of his poker tournament career.
While proficient in NL Hold’em, Anderson does not enjoy it as much as other games. His profile on PocketFives states that his favorite cash games are “anything but Hold’em” and his favorite tournament game is “any mixed game, any stake.”
Being able to play all games proficiently is the true sign of a well-rounded poker player and Calvin Anderson has certainly proved that he is one of the top all-around players in the game today. Hopefully, he will be able to take the momentum from his two SCOOP wins this month and parlay that into another bracelet title at the 2018 World Series of Poker.
