Mixed Game Poker Sites
Mixed game poker has become extremely popular on the Internet thanks to the availability of poker sites that offer multiple formats of poker. Internet poker players can quickly learn several poker variants and then jump right in to the mixed game tables. There are several mixed game poker sites out there but the ones on this list are the best in terms of traffic and game variety.
The best mixed game poker sites are, not surprisingly, the biggest all around poker sites. The massive player traffic offered by both of the following mixed game poker sites keeps all poker variants busy. Both poker sites offer so many different game types that it only makes sense they also offer mixed game poker tables.
- Location: Netherlands
- Established: 2004
- Mark. Code: BPSORG
- Traffic: 235,929 Players
- Mac Friendly: Yes
PokerStars also has an impressive variety of mixed poker ring games and tournaments. They have an entire section dedicated to mixed poker ring games such as HORSE, 8-Game Mix, Hold'em-Omaha Mix and several fixed limit-no limit mixes. The traffic at these tables is solid at all stakes but you’ll find the most players at the low and medium stakes games. The stakes range from $0.10/$0.20 and go up to $1000/$2000.
PokerStars hosts multiple mixed game tournaments every day. These tournaments range in buyin from $0 to more than $3,000. Every week PokerStars hosts a $20,000 guaranteed mixed game tournament, two $5,000 guaranteed tournaments and a bunch of other smaller guaranteed tournaments. The PokerStars Championship of Online Poker includes about a dozen mixed game events with guaranteed prize pools that range from $50,000 to $400,000.
Both of the above rooms are great mixed game poker sites. Full Tilt Poker is listed as the best mixed game poker site but PokerStars is not far behind. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that Full Tilt Poker offers the best mixed poker ring games and that PokerStars offers the best mixed poker tournaments. No matter which poker site you end up choosing, you’ll be in good hands.
About Mixed Game Poker
Mixed game poker is a form of poker in which several different poker variants are rotated at a single poker table. Let’s say, for example, that you join an HA (Hold'em-Omaha) table. In that case, the game would switch between Texas Hold'em and Omaha after every 10 hands or so. This gives players a chance to play several different types of poker without having to move around between tables.
There are quite a few mixed poker variants. Some of them only consist of two different games while others rotate through a list of eight games. There are also mixed poker games that stick with one poker variant but switch between fixed limit and pot limit. The possibilities are endless but a few mixed poker games have emerged in recent years as the most popular.
HORSE
HORSE is the most well known mixed poker format. All games in HORSE poker are played in the fixed limit format. The game lineup includes the following poker variants:
- H – Texas Hold'em
- O – Omaha Eight or Better
- R – Razz
- S – Seven Card Stud
- E – Seven Card Stud Eight or Better
HOSE
HOSE is identical to HORSE except Razz is left out of the mix. Other than that, there’s no difference between the two games. If you are easing your way into mixed poker, you might want to learn the games in HOSE first and then graduate to HORSE after that.
8 Game Mix
As the name suggests, 8 Game Mix consists of eight different poker variants. Because there are so many poker games this mix, some poker venues change the games up more frequently than in other mixed games. The list of games is as follows:
- T – 2-7 Triple Draw (Fixed Limit)
- H – Texas Hold'em (Fixed Limit)
- O – Omaha Eight or Better (Fixed Limit)
- R – Razz (Fixed Limit)
- S – Seven Card Stud (Fixed Limit)
- E – Seven Card Stud Eight or Better (Fixed Limit)
- H – Texas Hold'em (No Limit)
- A – Omaha (Pot Limit)
HA
HA is a combination of pot limit Texas Hold'em and pot limit Omaha. This is also a popular mixed game format because almost everyone plays Texas Hold'em and then Omaha is easy to learn after that. HA serves as a great introduction for players who are new to mixed poker.
Mixed Hold'em and Mixed Omaha
Any time a single game is listed as mixed (such as Mixed Hold'em), it means the game stays the same but the table switches between fixed limit and no limit. In a game of Mixed Hold'em, you might play 10 hands of fixed limit Hold'em, 10 hands of no-limit Hold'em and then back and forth from there.
