How to Play Online Blackjack
Blackjack is one of those games that is simple to learn, but grows more complex as you get to know the game. Blackjack is a multi-player game, but each player competes independently against the dealer. The goal for each player is to get as close to 21 as possible, without going over 21.
A round of blackjack begins with each player placing a bet. The dealer then deals two cards to each player and two cards to himself. The players’ cards are all dealt face up, while the dealer has one face up and one face down.
Each card in the game is worth a certain number of points. The cards 2-10 are all worth face value in points, and the cards Jack, Queen and King are each worth 10 points. Aces can be worth either 11 points or 1 – whichever is the most beneficial to the player’s hand and total score.
Now that the players have seen their cards, they may decide if they wish to “hit” or “stand.” If a player chooses to hit, that player will receive another card. Players can hit as many times as they want, but they must be careful not to go over 21 points, or they'll "bust" and lose. When a player is satisfied with his hand, he may stop at any time.
The dealer now plays his hand out according to the house rules. When the dealer has finished playing his hand, the dealer’s cards are revealed. At this point, the winners and losers are determined.
Winning and Losing:
If the player’s hand is higher than the dealer’s without going over: the player wins even money on his original bet.
If the dealer’s hand is higher than the player’s without going over: the dealer wins the bet.
If the player goes over 21: this is considered a “bust” and the player loses his original bet.
If the dealer goes over 21: this is considered a loss and the player wins even money on his bet.
If the player lands on exactly 21 points with the first two cards: this is considered a “blackjack.” In this case, the player wins 3:2 on his original bet. So a $10 bet will be rewarded with $15 in winnings.
